Discussion on SIR
The revision of the electoral roll is a constitutional provision. After the recent transfer of power, the new government in this country sought at least to guarantee the people their right to vote. Hence, the central objective of revising the voter list was inclusion. This process has been carried out multiple times in keeping with that ideal. Since the 1990s, the revision of voter lists has been conducted regularly—and now, it is done every year on a regional basis.
Even so, the sudden call for an intensive revision drive just before the elections—creating panic among ordinary people, threatening them with deletion from the rolls, and invoking the specter of the so-called “Bangladeshi enemy”—has generated a climate of fear that is profoundly unconstitutional.
In this context, Tushar Dhara, journalist with The Wire, will share his insights from the SIR experience in Bihar at a small discussion meeting. All are cordially invited.

A discussion on Palestine is essential. For Palestine embodies the history of a people becoming exiles in their own homeland. Across the world, communities are being displaced under the assault of capital. In our own country too, there is an insidious attempt to render people stateless in the name of SIR. These events across the globe are not unrelated.In the face of extreme brutality, the unyielding resistance of Palestine stands as a symbol of hope for all struggling peoples around the world.
